David Nolan Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in Art Basel Miami Beach, 2013.
This year, our booth will feature a number of focused presentations, including Gavin Turk, Jorinde Voigt, Neil Gall and Alexander Ross. For the fair, Gavin Turk has produced two major new works: Pistoletto’s Pile, a vast screen-printed mirror (in the manner of Michelangelo Pistoletto) and Pipe Dream, a full-scale exhaust pipe rendered in Venetian blown glass. Jorinde Voigt has chosen six works from the 2012 series “Piece for Words and Views,” which relate to the French philosopher Roland Barthes and his text, A Lover’s Discourse.
Within our booth we will present a special solo exhibition of works by Mel Kendrick as part of the Kabinett sector of the fair. This will bring together a group of new sculptures as well as four “Water Drawings” – a new body of work, which we will present in full this January in New York.
Elsewhere, we will exhibit a selection of new paintings by Neil Gall. Taking inspiration from Willem de Kooning and the collages of Kurt Schwitters, Gall constructs abstracted compositions based on low-relief maquettes, which he fabricates using “a self-imposed repertoire of objects.” Also starting with a maquette is a new painting by Alexander Ross that depicts a realistically modeled biomorphic form within a two-dimensional cellular environment. In addition, we will present a painting by Steve DiBenedetto entitled Feedback (2009) which depicts an octopus grappling with a helicopter within a giddying and hyperactive composition.
Other highlights of the booth will be two portraits by Jim Nutt, a painting and drawings by Richard Artschwager and work by David Hartt, whose photographs from the “Stray Light” series offer a meditative glimpse of the iconic Johnson Publishing Company in Chicago designed by African American architect, John Moutoussamy in 1971.
